8 Reasons to Hike the W-Trek Independently

Are you planning to visit Torres del Paine and hike the W-Trek but don’t fancy being guided or trek in a group?
Then perhaps a Self-Guided W-Trek is the best option for you!

What is a Self-Guided W-Trek?
A self-guided trek allows you to hike independently and be your own guide while all trip planning is done and all logistics of the trek will be arranged for you, so you can just enjoy your trekking adventure. A self-guided trek also is a more economical alternative to the guided treks in Patagonia, and thus a great for option for hikers who are traveling on a budget.

Here are 8 benefits and key characteristics of our Self-Guided Treks in Torres de Paine.

1. Enjoy Full Independence - Hike at Your Own Pace & Rythm

Hiking the W-Trek independently allows you to walk at your own pace and on your own schedule. Stop wherever you like, take as many photos as you like and all the time you need to capture the perfect shot. You don’t have to match anybody’s rhythm but your own, can take all the breaks you wish and simply enjoy your freedom!

2. Safe Time & Effort - We Check and Find Availability for You

Due to the increasing popularity of the W-Trek finding space at Torres del Paine’s accommodations has become extremely difficult and time-consuming and for some peak season dates nearly impossible. During the W-Trek you’ll be staying in a different location each night and each place needs to be booked individually which adds to the challenge. Save the time and effort and let us do the research or you!
We also hold spots for certain dates and can often still offer you space when accommodation is officially sold out. And if nothing is available for your travel dates, we know the best alternative to your original plan.

3. Don't Worry About Logistics - All Transportation & Tickets Will Be Pre-Booked

From your departure in Puerto Natales until your arrival back there all logistics will be taken care of. You don’t have to worry if there is seat for you or space to board on buses, shuttles or navigations as we take care of pre-booking all these services for you as soon as you confirm your trip. You’ll be all set for your adventure in Patagonia and can start enjoying your pre-trip happiness!

4. Rest Well - Stay at Refugios With Full Board

After a long day of trekking you’ll need a comfortable place to rest and a replenishing meal. Our treks include overnights at refugios which are comfortable mountain huts with shared bunk-bed style rooms. When refugios are not available anymore, we offer alternative accommodation in cabins or camping and in the latter case all camping equipment will be provided for you. You don’t have to bring any camping gear nor carry heavy equipment. While in the park, breakfast and dinner will be served in the refugios and each day you will be provided a box-lunch to take on the trail.

5. Start Your Trek Well Prepared - Pre-Trek Briefing

The evening before your trek starts you will have an informative briefing. During this briefing you will receive all documentation you need for your trek and get the chance to ask all last-minute questions you have. The briefing is also a great opportunity to meet other hikers that will trek the same route as you during the next days if after all you fancy some company on the trail.

6. Choose Your Favorite Length - 4 or 5 Day Options Available

Depending on your time and budget available you can choose to hike the W-Trek in 4 or 5 days. If your budget is limited or you have only little time available the 4 Day W-Trek is the best choice for you. The 5 Day W-Trek version gives you some extra time in the park and the extra night in Refugio Grey allows you to explore the area around Grey Glaciar in more detail, do an optional Kayaking Tour on the glaciar lake or an Ice Hike on Grey Glaciar.

7. Luggage Storage - Leave Your Belonging in Safe Hands While You Hit the Trail

If hiking the W-Trek is part of a longer trip, you will probably travel with lot of luggage you won’t need during the trek. If organizing your trek with us, you can safely store everything you don’t need during your trek at our partner’s office in Puerto Natales.

8. Constant Support From Patagonia Experts - We'll Be Always There to Help
