TRIP ITINERARY

Ciudad Perdida, the Lost City, is an amazing and epic archaeological site built in 800 AD by the “Tayronas” (which makes it 650 years older than Machu Picchu) and located in the mountains of Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, deep in the Colombian jungle. The ancient site is composed of 169 stone terraces carved into the mountainside, a net of tiled roads and several small circular plazas. This mysterious and magical place can only be reached on foot, and the Lost City trek on the path of the “Tayronas” is regarded as a ‘Hard’ level trek due to the humidity and heat experienced. Daily hikes cover between 8,5 and 17,5 km and climbs are steep but do not last for more than an hour and a half. Days are long but generally the trail is in a very good condition with some areas with wet rocks and roots that have to be tackled. Accommodation is in basic lodges, located next to rivers, always available for a rewarding cooling dip that re-energices sore muscles.
