The company follows minimum impact practices during their tours and have eliminated single-use plastics from all operations. In addition they finance sea turtle research as well as a soil restoration and reforestation project in the Sierra de la Laguna Biosphere Reserve.

TRIP ITINERARY

Experience the natural wonders the Baja California peninsula spotting the most charismatic marine species, gray whales and endangered sea turtles from Magdalena Bay, home to a staggering number of marine and aviary species, lush mangrove canals and towering sand dunes. Learn about a sea turtle restoration project and accompany the monitoring team of the project. Visit Espiritu Santo Island, an UNESCO World Heritage Site and spend the day exploring this magical island, snorkeling in the company of playful sea lions and swimming with whale sharks. This trip can be customized adding extra days and activities. From October through April we recommend to stay another day to snorkel with whale sharks – a unique once-in-a-lifetime experience!

DAY 1: LA PAZ TO MAGDALENA BAY
  • Depart from La Paz early in the morning en route to Magdalena Bay
  • Enjoy lunch before heading out to see the gray whales that come here to mate and calve before returning to Bering Sea
  • Learn about the sea turtle restoration project you will visit the next day
  • Get a good night’s rest at the cozy tents of the Gray Whale Camp nestled into the dunes at the water’s edge
DAY 2: SEA TURTLE MONITORING AND MANGROVE EXPLORATION
  • Wake up early and grab a cup of coffee and watch the fisher-conservationists prepare the nets used in the sea turtle monitoring
  • Accompany the monitoring team checking the nets for turtles that will be transported to camp to take measurements and other important data before releasing them back into the wild
  • Explore the mangroves and dunes that make Magdalena Bay so unique
DAY 3: GRAY WHALE OBSERVATION
  • After breakfast commence the search for the friendly gray whales that make the incredible migration from the Bering Sea, all the way down to Magdalena Bay where every year the whales come to breed and calve
  • Once back at the camp, pop into the kitchen to learn about regional cuisine, or relax and get lost in a book
  • After dinner, relax and enjoy the stars in a night sky that never disappoints
DAY 4: GRAY WHALES TO LA PAZ
  • Wake up to take in the spectacular sunrise one more time
  • Head out for another search for whales – make sure your camera is handy to capture images of these magnificent giants!
  • After a picnic lunch on a secluded barrier island, start back for La Paz where the journey concludes
DAY 5: ESPÍRITU SANTO ISLAND AND WHALE SHARKS
  • Depart early in the morning for the short boat ride to Espíritu Santo Island
  • Visit a sea lion colony, where you will have the change to get in the water, snorkel with sea lions and observe tropical fish
  • Enjoy a tasty lunch and relax at a secluded beach
  • If you are lucky and feeling adventurous, grab your snorkel and mask and get in the water to see the whale sharks up close before returning to La Paz by sunset
