Learn about local life, culture and the traditions of the Native Community of Infierno. Visit an Ethnobotanical Center where a Shaman will explain the uses of various medicinal plants and a working jungle farm to learn about local agriculture.

This Amazon Ecotourism program is for those looking for a first taste of the Amazon’s natural wonders and learn about local life and traditions. The Jungle Lodge that serves as a base for this tour is owned by the indigenous Ese-Eja community of Infierno and despite being relatively close to Puerto Maldonado it offers ample opportunities to see wildlife. Row around an oxbow lake, take your chances at parrot clay lick, walk to the huge kapok tree near the lodge and visit an ethnobotanical center to farm within the Native Community of Infierno. The below itinerary is a sample itinerary of 4 days, shorter and longer options are available either.

  • Transfer by vehicle and boat into the lands of the Native Community of Infierno and the Community´s Primary Forest Private Reserve
  • Spot toucans, parrots or macaws from the ldoge´s Canopy Tower
  • Particicpate in an Ecotourism Lecture and learn about the Infierno Ecotourism Project
  • Search for the resident family of nine giant river otters and other lakeside wildlife such as caiman, hoatzin and horned screamers during an early morning boat, walking and catamaran tour
  • Visit Centro Ñape, a communal organization that produces medicines out of forest plants and learn about the different medicinal uses of selected plants on their ethnobotanical trail
  • Hike out at night, when most of the mammals are active but difficult to see and find frogs with shapes and sounds as bizarre as their natural histories
  • Get up early to visit Parrot Clay Lick and spot Mealy and Yellow-headed Amazon, Blue-headed Parrot and Dusky headed Parakeet
  • Learn about the natural history of the rainforest during a two hour hike crowned by a giant ceiba tree, the largest tree in the vicinity
  • Visit one of the community of Infierno´s farms whose owner grows a diverse variety of popular and unknown Amazon crops
  • Take your river and road journey back to Puerto Maldonado
