Hike the famous Inca Trail! The 4 day 3 night Inca Trail is the most popular Machu Picchu Hike. End the trek on the 4th day by hiking directly into Machu Picchu via the Sungate, just like the Inca's did.

The 4 day 3 night Inca Trail is the most popular Machu Picchu Hike. Along the trail there are 7 archaeological sites, a variety of flora and fauna, and the area is rich in history. It traverses the original Inca steps ending at the Sun Gate (Inti Punku), the entrance to Machu Picchu city. You will hike 42 km/26 mi in total and the trail goes up to 4,215 m/13,828 ft, classifying it as a moderate trek. This trail requires a permit and a limited number of people are allowed to trek per day - these spots fill quickly so booking well in advance is recommended!

  • Leave Cuzco towards the starting point of the Inca Trail
  • See the third highest snow capped mountain in the Cusco region, named Wacaywillca or Veronica
  • Reach your first campsite Wayllabamba*
  • Continue hiking the Sacred Trail and climb Dead Woman`s Pass, the highest pass of the trek
  • Enjoy spectacular views of glaciers, valleys, and never ending mountains
  • Reach your second campsite called Pacaymayu*
  • Climb the Runkurakay and Phuyupatamarca passes
  • Visit the archeological sites Runkurakay and Sayacmarca along the way
  • See Machu Picchu mountain, the Vilcabamba range, and the Urubamba river from the pass
  • Continue to the Wiñaywayna campsite*
  • Walk to the Sun Gate, the Inca Trail´s entrance to Machu Picchu and to Machu Picchu city
  • Enjoy a tour of Machu Picchu with your guide who will unfold the mysteries of this magical site, explaining the history and flora/fauna
  • Take the bus down to Aguas Calientes and the train back to Ollantaytambo where your private transport will take you back to Cuzco
